The founder and president of Bauman Consulting Group, Ashley Bauman, was recently able to attend a Brené Brown event - The Daring Way. While there, she gained invaluable lessons that we can’t wait to share with you soon. As she was at the workshop, it gave me time to catch up on the worldwide phenomenon of Brené Brown and the impact she has on millions, across industries, and in personal lives.
I regularly witness people holding back because timing and fear of acceptance are lingering over them. The two following Brené Brown quotes sum up a great response to those fears:
“I define vulnerability as uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure. With that definition in mind, let’s think about love. Waking up every day and loving someone who may or may not love us back, whose safety we can’t ensure, who may stay in our lives or may leave without a moment’s notice, who may be loyal to the day they die or betray us tomorrow — that’s vulnerability.”
“When we spend our lives waiting until we’re perfect or bulletproof before we walk into the arena, we ultimately sacrifice relationships and opportunities that may not be recoverable, we squander our precious time, and we turn our backs on our gifts, those unique contributions that only we can make,” says Brown. “Perfect and bulletproof are seductive, but they don’t exist in the human experience.”
We cannot wait until the time is right. We cannot wait until the time is comfortable. We cannot wait to apply for those jobs until we meet every single “preferred skillset.” We cannot wait until we are satisfied. We cannot wait until we are being begged to enter the arena. If we have a passion, an idea, a goal, or a skill to show the world, now is the time. Whether this is asking your boss for that raise or deciding to express your views to friends and neighbors to gain support for a cause, the time is now.
